Queenstown, New Zealand

Queenstown is a resort town in Otago in the south-west of New Zealand's South Island. The town is built around an inlet on Lake Wakatipu, a long thin lake shaped like a staggered lightning bolt, and has spectactular views of nearby mountains.
There are various apocryphal accounts of how the town was named, the most popular suggesting that a local gold digger exclaimed that the town was "fit for Queen Victoria". It is sometimes disparagaingly referred to as "Vegas by the Lake" for a perceived fixation on commerce-oriented tourism, especially adventure and ski tourism. It is popular with young international and New Zealand travellers alike.
The town is the largest centre in Central Otago, but for some administrative purposes it is considered part of Southland. According to the 2001 census, the usually resident population of the Queenstown urban area (including Frankton and Kelvin Heights) is 8535, an increase of 19.3% since 1996.
Its neighbouring towns and districts include Arrowtown, Wanaka, Alexandra, and Cromwell. The nearest cities are Dunedin and Invercargill.

Farmers' market

Farmers' markets are markets, usually held out-of-doors, in public spaces, where farmers can sell their produce to the public.
Products at farmers' markets are renowned for being locally-grown and very fresh. Proponents of farmers' markets reason that since locally-grown produce does not travel as far to get to your table, the difference in mileage saves fossil fuels, allows farmers to pick produce at the peak of flavor, and preserves the nutritional content of fresh produce.

2007 Summer Universiade

กีฬามหาวิทยาลัยโลกฤดูร้อน 2007 เป็นการแข่งขันกีฬามหาวิทยาลัยโลกฤดูร้อน ครั้งที่ 24 จัดขึ้นที่ กรุงเทพมหานคร ประเทศไทย ระหว่างวันที่ 8-18 สิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2550

โดย สมเด็จพระบรมโอรสาธิราช เจ้าฟ้ามหาวชิราลงกรณ สยามมกุฎราชกุมาร เสด็จพระราชดำเนินเป็นองค์ประธานในพิธีเปิดการแข่งขันอย่างเป็นทางการ ณ ราชมังคลากีฬาสถาน เมื่อวันที่ 8 สิงหาคม

สัญลักษณ์ประจำการแข่งขัน

สัญลักษณ์ประจำการแข่งขัน ถูกออกแบบโดยเป็นลักษณะของเส้นสายทั้ง 5 สี ร้อยเรียงในรูปตัว U ซึ่งมาจากคำว่า Universiade เปรียบได้ดังเส้นสายแห่งการถ่ายทอดประสบการณ์ การแลกเปลี่ยนความรู้ และ วัฒนธรรม ระหว่างตัวแทนและนักกีฬาจากมหาวิทยาลัยต่าง ๆ ใน 5 ทวีป ทั่วโลก ทั้งหมดรวมกันเป็นหนึ่งเดียว พุ่งม้วนเข้าสู่สัญลักษณ์ลวดลายสีเหลืองทอง อันเป็นเอกลักษณ์ของชาติไทย เปี่ยมล้นไปด้วยความปิติยินดี และ ความภาคภูมิใจที่ได้รับเกียรติให้ เป็นศูนย์กลางแห่งการถ่ายทอดและแลกเปลี่ยนวัฒนธรรม

สัตว์นำโชค

ตุ๊กตาสัญลักษณ์ (mascot) ของการแข่งขันครั้งนี้ คือ กระต่าย ชื่อ “ไมตี้ ไมตรี” (Mighty Maitri) อันหมายถึง พลังและมิตรภาพ เนื่องจาก ในปี พ.ศ. 2550 พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวฯ ทรงเจริญพระชนมพรรษาครบ 80 พรรษา เพื่อเป็นการร่วมเฉลิมฉลองในวโรกาสสำคัญยิ่งดังกล่าว จึงเลือก “กระต่าย” อันเป็นสัตว์ประจำนักษัตรแห่งปีพระบรมราชสมภพ เป็นสัญลักษณ์นำโชคในการแข่งขันครั้งนี้
กระต่าย เป็นสัญลักษณ์ที่แสดงถึงความว่องไว เฉลียวฉลาด อ่อนโยน พร้อมต้อนรับนักกีฬาทุกชาติ ด้วยรอยยิ้มและมิตรภาพ ทั้งรูปร่างหน้าตา สีสัน และ กิริยาท่าทาง ล้วนแสดงออกถึงความอ่อนน้อมถ่อมตน อันเป็นหนึ่งในเอกลักษณ์ของวัฒนธรรมไทย ที่สืบต่อกันมายาวนาน

คำขวัญ
คำขวัญของการแข่งขันในครั้งนี้คือ "ALL BECOME ONE" เป็นการแสดงถึงการรวมกันเป็นหนึ่งเดีนวของผู้คนทุกชนชาติ ทุกศาสนา จากกว่า 150 ประเทศ เข้าร่วมมหกรรมกีฬาอันยิ่งใหญ่ของปัญญาชนที่กรุงเทพมหานคร

Cirque du Soleil

Le Cirque du Soleil, compagnie de nouveau cirque, se singularise par des numéros ne recourant pas à des animaux tout en donnant la part belle à des artistes de mime et à des acrobates, est sise à Montréal, dans le quartier Saint-Michel.
Fondé en 1984 par Guy Laliberté et Daniel Gauthier, l'entreprise compte plus de 3 000 salariés, animant huit spectacles en tournée (sous chapiteau) qui tournent parallèlement sur la planète et six autres spectacles permanents, tous à thématiques différentes.
Les spectacles en tournée : Saltimbanco (qui vient d'être relancé dans une nouvelle formule en "aréna") Alegría, Quidam, Dralion (dragon pour l'orient et lion pour l'occident avec une troupe venant de Chine), Varekai et tout dernièrement Corteo , Delirium et Kooza. Les spectacles permanents: Mystère (Las Vegas), O (Las Vegas), La Nouba (Orlando), Zumanity (Las Vegas), KA (Las Vegas) et Love (Las Vegas).
Deux nouveaux spectacles permanents sont prévus, l'un à Tokyo Disney Resort en 2008 et l'autre à Macao. Un nouveau spectacle de tournée sera lancé à Montréal le 19 avril 2007, il porte le nom de Kooza.

The Believe It or Not franchise started in 1918 as a newspaper cartoon panel featuring unusual and startling facts from around the world.

Croque-monsieur
